July 2011 is going to be a very exciting month for Kent as the British Open Golf Championship is returning to Sandwich between Thursday the 14th of July and Sunday the 17th, where Royal St.George's will be hosting the event for the 14th year!

Mid Life Crossing - Guest Stays to Swim Channel

Our guest Greig Gjerdalen has patiently waited a whole week for the weather to improve so that he can join his fellow swimmer Rod Craig in his Channel crossing mission!

They have been friends since the age of 6, growing up in North Vancouver together and are now members of the Hairy Gerome Masters Swimming Club. 

Greig booked into the hotel a week ago and has been waiting for the perfect conditions to play his role as support swimmer and brave the cold English sea tomorrow, nicknaming their journey the "Mid Life Crossing". The pair have made the decision to swim the English Channel in a bid to motivate and inspire others.

We also offer a payable parking service for individuals who are not staying with us at our hotel but who require parking in the area.

Our car park is directly connected to the hotel and is conveniently located ten minutes from the Channel Tunnel, offering secure, monitored car parking facilities for £7.50 a day (24 hours)*

Circuit Day - 18th June 2010

The Holiday Inn Express, Folkestone were proud to be the starting point for Circuit-Day’s French Riviera Adventure Tour in June.

Setting off from Folkestone and travelling through Chamberey, Grenoble, Route Napolean, Grasse, Monaco, Col Du Turini, San Remo, Milan, Lake Como with their trip ending in Paris, they chose to use our Hotel as a stop-over and briefing point before beginning their journey, decorating our car park with an array of bright flashy sports cars.

Volcanic Ash Chaos in Folkestone

Our warm, friendly staff came to the rescue during the volcanic ash chaos this month, which caused mayhem and upheaval for many travellers across Europe.

Due to the increase in demand for the Channel Tunnel after all airports were declared closed, Eurotunnel were faced with increased passenger levels, so our team were prepared and on hand to deal with all stranded and frustrated travellers who needed accommodation, transport advice and help arranging alternative travel plans.

One of the Vice Presidents of IHG was also one of the unlucky to be left stranded and used our hotel as a stop over after a very tiring trip travelling via boat, train and taxi from France to reach the UK. Our hotel enabled him to have rest and recover before finally being reunited with his family, who travelled from the Midlands to collect him.

By taking the weight off our exhausted guest’s shoulders, lending a caring ear and overcoming language barriers, thanks to our multi-lingual General Manager, Joseph Albanese, we were able to offer our guest’s a comfortable bed to sleep, a shower to freshen up and complimentary breakfast, ensuring the last leg of their journey was a more relaxed and pleasant experience.
